Boys Home Samuel

Orphan Care

As a result of 20 years of civil war and the tsunami in December 2004 there are many orphans in the Tamil area on Sri Lanka. Moreover there are many children who lost one of their parents. In many cases the single parent married again and left the children behind without caring for them.

Ceylon Christian Care runs the following orphan homes on Sri Lanka :

· Herman’s Girls Home

· Boys Home Samuel

Boys Home Samuel

In the year 2004 Ceylon Christian Care opened this orphan home in Periyaneelavanai. There are 30 boys in the age between 5 and 15 in this home.

Boys Home Samuel was hit too by the waves of the Tsunami but the damage was limited. Some windows and doors were damaged. Afterwards we came to the conclusion that the way the builder had constructed the home was the reason that it resisted the Tsunami. All other buildings around this compound were washed away or heavily damaged.

At the time of the waves only 8 of the boys were in church. It was holiday time and most of the children were with their relatives. However, not one of these boys perished in the waves of the Tsunami. For us this is a sign that God protected these children.

The staff of this home consists of two wardens and a cook.
