A New Year, A New Start

By the end of January Ton van de Heuvel will move for Ceylon Christian to Sri Lanka Care for a period of 2 years. He will work with Ladder of Hope in the areas of education and business development. He will also help to create  a good reporting structure. For this purpose we like to make use of the latest technologies which allows us to register and share all information “in the cloud”.

As written before, we pray that the Lord will bless the work on Sri Lanka and that we may instruments in His hands to let His light shine in the hearths of the people.

More information will follow soon.

With kind regards,

Herman van der Weerd

Dear friends,

The second half of 2009 and 2010 was a difficult period within the 10 years Ceylon Christian Care has been active on Sri Lanka. After having worked for a long time closely together with Rev Jeyanesan serious allegations were brought to our attention which we were not able to solve and finally we were left with no other option then to terminate our relationship with him. For us as Ceylon Christian Care this was a big disappointment and it took time to process the impact and consequences of the decision taken.

However, in the past years Ceylon Christian Care was also the driving force behind the establishment and operations of the Sri Lankan organization “Ladder of Hope”. This organization was responsible for all projects of Ceylon Christian Care on Sri Lanka. In the discussions during the second half of 2010 we learned that the other board members of this organization were not involved and had no part in the issues of Rev Jeyanesan. Ladder of Hope now has reorganized itself. Two of the board members Mr. David and Rev Sounthi came in November last year to the Netherlands and as board of Ceylon Christian Care we have decided to continue with Ladder of Hope and the projects. These projects are:

- The community development project in Murokkodanchenai

- The community development project in Mahiloor

- The Christian English Medium School in Batticaloa

- Support to orphans, widows and needy people

It is also good to see that the difficult situation has brought us as people together. Due to this crisis we know each other much better now. We also know the enormous need for Christian help on Sri Lanka. It is our prayer that the Lord will guide us in the way forward.

The year 2011 had a difficult start for the people on the east coasts areas of Sri Lanka. Large parts of the land were under water due to several weeks of heavy rain. According to government information more than 800.000 people had to leave their homes and move to dry places. The crop of the farmers is lost which means that a food problem will appear soon. The new created main road along the coast (build with Chinese help) is washed away on several places. This makes transport very difficult. We understood that the rain fall was the heaviest in 50 years.

Ceylon Christian Care has started with the help of Ladder of Hope to provide food and medical support to the people who lost all their belongings.
